If you are in a long line of unemployment, staring at the back of the head of the person in front of you and wondering how things have come to this step. Take heart, there is a job out there for you. Even in this economy.
The June 2008 U.S. News and World Report lists the jobs that older people are more likely to find available. I will use this article as a jumping off point in finding jobs for mature Americans. We will not visit all the jobs and professions in the article, because in our current economic, some of the jobs would be untenable. For example, real estate broker does not seem like a good job of that now, even if available.
The jobs are going to see are:
1. Retail Sales / Sales Worker
2. Conductor
3. Secretaries / Administrative Assistant
4. Tax preparer
Let's make some simplifying assumptions. First, let's stipulate that the elderly worker is willing to move to a new job and is willing to train for a new job if necessary. These assumptions may not be as arbitrary as it seems. If you and a large number of colleagues were laid off, is less likely that the skill you have is not in demand at the place where you live. The willingness to retrain and will move almost doubles your chances of getting a new job.
Given that we are talking about an older worker is a long learning of the matter. Job as an engineer, doctor, lawyer, and drivers are unless they already have those skills.
Of the four areas that we decided to look to see what would be the most fruitful. We will use one of the great popular job search for our future. Namely for Yahoo HotJobs. We will simplify our search criteria to facilitate searching and finding the most jobs.
Let's look at the word "sale" to write that word in the keyword box and clean up anything that might be in the city or the category tables. Then press the search button. I get the following:
1. Retail: 21,944 jobs
A very good deal. Let's try some similar search terms:
A. Sales: 36,938 jobs
B. worker: 8513 jobs
2. Conductor: 15,167 jobs
A. Truck: 8372 jobs
3. Admin 16,455 jobs
A. 16,455 administrative jobs
B. Secretary 7511 jobs
4. Taxes 3451 jobs
A. Tax Preparer 65 jobs
If you are doing a thorough job search you may wish to compare these results with those of job search sites like Monster and Headhunter. If you really want to wade through all the jobs in the world of work - and if their skills are not much use you may have to - I recommend one of the meta-search engines such as Indeed, Juju, or SimplyHired. The goal of job search engines you can look at all the small job-search sites at once.
Meanwhile, at the ranch, what can we learn from our Yahoo HotJobs search? If you want to increase your chances of getting a job at the national level, do not become a tax preparer. Such advice should be taken with a grain of salt. Obviously as we get closer to April 15 the demand for tax preparers and should improve the search results will change. But if you want a job right now, doing the taxes for someone does not look like the way forward.
Advertising as a worker or a truck guy who does not seem to know the best way to get a job.
If you have a resume that says you are a secretary, it seems we can do better by creating a new resume talks until its strengths as an administrative assistant.
Despite the weak economy, someone somewhere is still recruiting retail friends. An administrative assistant with experience in retail sales should be able to find a job easily.
For grins we add some more jobs that we believe could be in demand.
1. Manager 36652 jobs
2. 1560 jobs in practice
3. 14,734 jobs, entry-level
Even if you are trying to introduce a new field, not looking for a job as an apprentice. Rather you should look for the entry-level jobs.
While managers must have worked so if you have a management skill that seems to be a good bet for you.
Different jobs pass through different procedures when they search for the details on a job and try to implement. At Yahoo, which sometimes have to click through the website of a company and apply for work there. On the other hand, if you saved your resume in Yahoo HotJobs, there will probably be some jobs can be sought while never leaving the Yahoo website.
I would advise against working at home jobs that you find on sites in search of employment. Yes, these jobs exist. I had two different ones. The problem is that most work at home jobs will be a scam intended to make one of two things. Either separated from your money or infect your computer with viruses or adware.
Some of the jobs they want to apply for the office may require skills or experience that you do not have software. Often, community colleges are close to two years or institutions that can quickly and inexpensively teach you everything you need to know. Some well-equipped libraries, with Microsoft Office that it is possible that in practice free of charge.
You should go to a vocational school as a last resort. Can be expensive. If you do wind in a vocational school, make sure it has been in business a few years. Make sure it is accredited and licensed in your state. To verify the allegations against the institution in the Better Business Bureau Web site. See if the vocational school has some job search assistance and talk to former students to see if the care is appropriate and whether employers welcomed the certificate that the vocational school offers.
